Isaac Bashevis Zinger is one of the rare writers, most of the works of which exist in two versions at once: in the original and translated, which is sometimes noticeably different from the original text. In 1974, Zinger’s novel “The Expedition of the Soul” was published in Yiddish. Four years later, the English version of the novel with a simple and memorable name “Shosh” came out. It is she who is familiar to readers around the world. Before you is a translation, first made from the original edition in the Yiddish. Hinting at the Freudian “expeditions to the unconscious”, the author describes in the novel the Jewish bohemia of the pre -war Warsaw, who has fun with psychoanalytic sessions with a mixture of Hasidism, tries to make out the upcoming disaster, is fond of occultism and Kabbalah, tries to realize the meaning of faith and service to the deity in the era of evil.
