This book would never have been written if it were not for not meeting Alexander Zakharovich Lebonesev, Chairman of the Council of Veterans of the 38th Rifle Division and the main author of the book Fathers-Commanders. It was held in December 2005, when Alexander Zakharovich found me on a service phone. He was very active, man, veteran and interlocutor. His tenacious memory has retained a pretty many episodes of that war. He could talk in detail about the fights and hiking life of fighters and commanders of Mother"s infantry. But the red line in his stories was very often held by the January tragedy of 1944, when his 38th rifle division, instead of the offensive, first got under the strongest Conrtuddar of the Germans, and then was surrounded. The division commander Colonel Korotkov was soon accused of treasoning his homeland and shot before the rank. Alexander Zakharovich often asked me to ever write a separate book about this story and, very much knowing that the Cup is still completely secret, he was convinced that I would definitely be able to deal with it. For each meeting, a veteran usually brought me rare books, articles, publishing and even copies of documents. Only then I realized that all this was done with one goal - to convince me of the need to do this topic ... And today I fulfill the request of A.Z. Lebedinseva
