Historical and literary studies of the outstanding British scientist and thinker Klave Steapleza Lewis (1898-1963), known in Russia primarily thanks to his art and theological works, are first translated into Russian. In his works, Lewis demonstrates the ability to look at the object of research through the eyes of a contemporary, distinguishing the intentions and assessment of ancient authors from later interpretations. "Allegoria of Love" (1936) is dedicated to the European allegorical tradition, starting with Provencal poetry of the XI century and ending with the Renaissance in England. In the "preface to the" lost paradise "" (1942), the author considers the nature of epic poetry, Milton’s theology and criticizes the romantic interpretations of his poem. "Disconnected Image" (1964) is the last book of Lewis, in which he reconstructs the picture of the world of medieval man, an image rejected by the new time
