For a modern person who wants to seriously conduct spiritual life, the creations of St. Ignatius (Bryanchaninov) are an indispensable leadership. The previous experience of patristic ascetic thought is concentrated in them, and St. Ignatius embodied this experience in his own life. His Scriptures clearly reveal the essence of the correct spiritual path, and those subtleties of spiritual work that can be incorrectly interpreted when reading ancient ascetic treatises are clarified. The life of the saint became the confirmation of that spiritual law that no temptations, circumstances of the time or features of personal status in society can prevent the unity of the human spirit with the Spirit of God.
The publication is based on a meeting of letters prepared by Abbot Mark (Lozinsky, † 1973), an ardent admirer of St. Ignatius and a zealous worker in the field of collecting information about the life of the saint, about his literary works and the features of ascetic teaching.
