The book by English professor Charles William Heckethorn "Secret Societies of All Ages and Countries" is a fundamental study of religious, political, and other secret societies that existed in different corners of our planet at various times and were known to the author at the time of writing. It was published in 1875 and is considered a basic classical work on this topic.
In the book, one can find interesting materials about the Templars and Assassins, Guelphs and Carbonari, Manicheans and Freemasons, about Italian orders and sects of secondary importance, about the practices of adherents of the dreadful cult of the goddess Kali, who gathered in secret and not so secret orders, and much more.
Now, as at the time when Charles Heckethorn wrote his work, humanity continues to seek answers to the questions: "Where are they, the hidden levers of world control? Where are the great and mysterious puppeteers who, unseen by us, pull the world's strings and control it?" This is largely due to the fact that it is normal for a person to want to gather knowledge into a system, into a general compendium - for the same convenience of use. Over a century and a half, knowledge about the world has expanded, information about secret societies, orders, sects, and clubs has become significantly more, but Charles William Heckethorn's book remains relevant to this day.
