The main character of the novel by the famous Italian writer Bianca Pitzorno is a girl from a very poor family, born in a small town on the island of Sardinia at the end of the 19th century. She taught herself to read, adores ladies' romantic novels and Puccini operas, but even though deep down she dreams of a handsome prince, in real life she relies only on her wit and skilled hands. Through the eyes of the young seamstress, who enters the homes of the wealthy, we see the amazing stories of the residents of her town. There are love dramas, broken hearts, and even a murder (or maybe a suicide?). The book resembles the classic novels that the main character loves to read, while also addressing very modern themes of female independence, belief in one's own abilities, freedom, and the search for one's own path.
