The monograph is dedicated to Anton Chekhov's play "The Seagull," which has remained mysterious and attractive to readers, viewers, directors, and performers for 125 years. The poetics of "The Seagull" are analyzed in detail, the significance of the play in the evolution of Chekhov's work is outlined, as well as its relationship with Russian and world literary tradition. Historical and theatrical material from the late 19th century is also included. The book's structure includes an introduction, three parts, and a list of names and titles of works.
