Once the little sons of Prince Darnik, while playing, divided his principality among themselves. The eldest son got the steppe, the youngest got the forest. They decided to leave the rivers and seas to their father. Darnik did not object to such a division, but all his subjects were shocked when they found out how exactly the prince-father disposed of his lot. This book is the third novel in the tetralogy about Prince Darnik, nicknamed Fish Blood. The author attempts to reconstruct the early history of the Eastern Slavs and the Russian Khaganate in an artistic form, a state that possibly existed on the Middle Don and the Severn Donets in the 8th-9th centuries, neighboring with Khazaria, and was destroyed by the invasion of the Hungarians-Magyars in the 9th century. The previous two books of the series ("Fish Blood" and "Fish Blood and the Princess") were previously published in the same series.
