To make it clearer, I will explain: the index fund is just a basket (portfolio) in which there are a lot of eggs (shares), this basket is created in order to simulate the overall performance of any financial sector or market industry. The portfolio of the classic index fund, by definition, presents shares of the entire stock market, and not a few specially selected eggs.
