This book, along with the tasks of the equilibrium and the stability of the simplest elements of structures with elastic and elastic-plastic deformations, also contains information about plastic currents when processing materials by pressure, the creep of materials, about the dynamic resistance, the vibrations and the spread of elastic and plastic waves, and the influence temperatures, deformation speeds, radioactive irradiation, etc. on the strength and plasticity of materials. A description of the experimental technique used in the study of the mechanical properties of materials is given. The mathematical apparatus is publicly available and is essentially limited to ordinary differential equations. In some sections of the book, the methods of solving problems are given in a general way with a small number of illustrating examples. A qualified lecturer will easily make up for this gap, and the persons who studied the book will be able to apply the stated methods to various new tasks.
The basis for writing the book was lectures on the resistance of materials that have been given by the authors for several years at the Mechanical and Mathematics Department of Moscow State University.
The book is recommended for students of universities and physical and technical institutes. It will also be useful to engineers, scientists, graduate students and teachers
