Life in debt. Moral economy of debt practices in the life of communities in Russia

The publication is devoted to the analysis of the moral grounds for the development of consumer lending in modern Russia. How to maintain economic growth arising from lending and avoid debt crises? The work is based on an empirical sociological study of the debt morality of Russians conducted in 2014. The theoretical frame was proposed to analyze the relations of the debt, the relying PA theory of Daro exchange. Based on the results of the study, it is shown that the moral of individual responsibility and independence is an important cause of castleness. Dense communities, such as Orthodox parishes, are able to create joint responsibility, protect their members from sharp and rash credit decisions and contribute to more sustainable economic development
