The book tells about the life of one of the first Russian paleontologists of Vladimir Prokhorovich Amalitsky (1859-1917), who had obtained the numerous remains of animals and plants of the Perm period in the north of Russia. His findings served as the foundation of domestic paleontology of vertebrates and became the core of the Paleontological Museum of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The history of the discoveries of Amalitsky, as well as the fate of his collection, was traced on the basis of archival documents, as well as newspaper and journal notes of the late XIX and early XX centuries.
