The monograph is devoted to the main events of the history of the method in those areas of knowledge that now relate to the leading of the humanities, in the XV - early XVIII centuries. The question of the method, that is, about the productive and correct way of the production of judgments both in scientific knowledge in general and in each individual discipline, was first set by Aristotle. Logic, medicine, hermeneutics, law, mathematics, philology - each of the fields of knowledge in its own way solved the problem of the method. There are two interconnected problems in the focus of the authors of the monograph, key to the history of the method in the XV-XVII centuries: turning the method into an instrument of social and political action in “pragmatic historiography” and the process of gaining by the humanities of logically sound autonomy in the system of disciplines of the early New Age.
