The monograph outlines modern ideas about blood formation, the exchange of iron, their interaction and regulation. The characteristics of red blood cells, the methods of evaluating erythron, changes in indicators when exposed to drugs - erythropoiesis stimulants, donation, and various preformed factors are described in detail. The authors give the latest data on the methods of studying hemoglobin in elite sports, discuss the existing differences depending on gender, sport, and the conditions of the training process. Own data are presented based on the results of the training of elite athletes (biathlon, short track, skater and skiing), features of changes in red blood and iron exchange during training and sports competitions, and the possibilities of correcting the revealed changes are discussed.
