Geometry. With the application of selected works by P. Fermat and the correspondence of Descartes

The reader’s attention is proposed to the first Russian translation of the famous "geometry" of the great French mathematician and philosopher Rene Descartes, in which he first introduced the concepts of variable size and function. In addition to the "geometry" itself, which had a huge impact on the development of mathematics, the book contains some other works by Descartes and who almost simultaneously with him to the discovery of the analytical geometry of P. Farm, as well as letters. The final article sets out the general significance of Descartes mathematical activity in the historical aspect and revealed the interweaving of his mathematical ideas with the philosophical aspirations of the thinker and his era.
