The reader’s attention is proposed by the famous and classical in neurobiology the book from neuron to the brain ", the authors of which are widely known neurobiologists --- in a clear and intelligible form describe existing facts, methodological approaches and concepts, focusing on experimental data, Both classic and the most modern. The authors explain the behavior and complex functions of the brain in terms of the activity of nerve cells (neurons), consider cellular and molecular mechanisms of internearonal interaction, study the methods of formation of structures and connections that underlie the functions of the developing organism. The book is equipped with a large number of illustrations, not only every problem in itself is simply and clearly stated, but also where it came from, how it is related to other issues of neurobiology. A distinctive feature of the book is that the authors do not omit controversial issues, clearly describing the existing alternative points of view, and are not embarrassed to say that many serious problems have not yet been resolved.
The first English edition of the book was published in 1975, it was translated into Russian and became a desktop reference book on the main issues of brain physiology for several generations of researchers. The fourth English edition from which a real translation has been made is updated by more than three quarters and is, in fact, a completely new book, since the rapid growth of the science of the brain led to amazing discoveries in recent decades. But the purpose of the book remained the same as the authors in the preface to the first edition: "... to describe the methods of transmitting signals with nerve cells, as the signals are analyzed and as the highest functions of the brain arise on the basis of this integration." According to the authors, the book is intended for the reader without special education, which is interested in the principles of the nervous system.
This publication is included as recommended literature in almost all the courses regarding the work of the brain for students of medical and biological universities in Russia. The book will help students in obtaining and mastering knowledge about the nervous system, it will also be useful to researchers in this field, as well as representatives of other natural scientific disciplines, including physicists, engineers and molecular biologists
