The most important events of the Holy Wars era are thoroughly and reliably stated in the numerous works of Western European historians, while the evidence of the Arab authors are presented selectively and fragmentary. The purpose of this book is to tell the story of the Crusades from the point of view of the defenders of Islam. Professor Francesco Gabrieli on the pages of his book summarized the works of seventeen authors, including such eminent and authoritative historians as Ibn Alcalanisi, Ibn Alatir and Abulfid, as well as biographers and associates of Saladin - Bach Addin and Imad Addin. Along with the descriptions of the most important battles, the siege and diplomatic missions, Professor Gabrieli cites short sketches about the morals of the francs, their customs and outlook on life, alien and incomprehensible to the Arab observers. Often they are satirical and bring humor to the narrative. The book as a whole gives a clear and accurate picture of the period of wars for the Holy Land in detail
