The outstanding German economic sociologist Wolfgang Broke analyzes the origins of the latest financial, tax and economic crises, considering them as part of a long neoliberal transformation of post-war capitalism, which began in the 1970s. Turning to the theories of the crisis put forward at that time, he analyzes the subsequent contradictions and conflicts between states, governments, voters and capitalist interests - a process during which the main attention in the European system of states has shifted from taxation through a debt to budgetary "consolidation". The study ends with the consideration of the prospects for the restoration of social and economic stability.
