The novel Sanin by Mikhail Artsybashev is one of the most odious, sensational and popular works of the Russian Silver Age. He was called both the “anthem of spiritual poverty” and “shame of Russian literature”, and the author was branded as a pornograph and a singer of immoralism. In fact, this book, which causes disputes to this day, is that vulgarity, inertia, uncertainty and despair sooner or later lead a society and an individual to total bankruptcy. It is not surprising that for many decades, Sanin was under a censorship prohibition and was again reprinted only at the end of the 20th century
