The new book from the "Great Expeditions" series is devoted to Russian researchers of the Arctic. 82 years ago Chelyuskins, risking their lives, went to the unknown path with the sole purpose - to increase the power and wealth of their country, realizing that her future depends on the proper use of natural resources. "Chelyuskin" was crushed by ice without reaching the Pacific Ocean. But before Bering Strait, he still reached, proving that the northern seaway can be mastered. The ship sank about 150 kilometers from the banks of Chukotka. But the crew and passengers "Chelyuskin" were ready for such a turn of the events: they managed to unload the surge suppressions, broke the tent camp and equipped the landing pad for aircraft. The polar explorers led scientific observations and believed that the country would not quit them. The pilots sent to them to the rescue was to make it impossible. The pilots have not yet been able to land on the ice, and the weather most of the time stood her little. Nevertheless, everything turned out - Chelyuskintsev, among whom women and children were safely evacuated. This story entered the chronicle of the development of the Arctic as the greatest feat of Soviet people. We can rightfully be proud of such a heroic page of our past
