What a beautiful name - Varvara! In the past, it was very loved in Russia. Perhaps because people loved the great martyr Varvara, knew her life story, and did not forget to pray to her. And on December 17th, 'Varvara's Day', so many big and little girls approached the communion on the day of their angel! But in the godless Soviet times, this name gradually began to be forgotten: it became considered outdated, unfashionable. Yes, yes: at that time, names were divided into 'fashionable' and 'unfashionable'. Foreign names became fashionable - Eleonora, Zhanna, Nelli, Albina, Violetta, and even completely invented names - Oktyabrina, Iskra, Maya, Era, and others like them, which sounded, as it seemed then, more beautiful and modern. Thank God - times change. It is very pleasant nowadays to hear again how someone calls a little girl with ribbons 'Varenka, Varusha'!
