The study of Russian-Venetian spiritual and cultural interaction provides compelling evidence for the idea that the East and West of Europe are components of one civilizational field. Actions in the Italian direction became part of a larger process of Russia's return to the European family, previously isolated by the Tatar-Mongol 'iron curtain', but once a full-fledged part of the Old World. In Europe, the Russians found support from co-religious peoples - Slavs and Greeks, who sought to serve the Moscow Tsar. The reader is offered a documented history of the relations between Europeans, Western Orthodox Christians, and Muscovites based on their contacts with the Venetian Republic. The book is intended for all those interested in the foreign policy of Peter the Great's Russia, as well as the church connections of Moscow/St. Petersburg with co-religionists in the West. 2nd edition.
