"The Russian Tea Traditions" is a book not only about the methods of making and preparing tea leaves, but also about the culture that has developed around tea. The author explores the history from the emergence of tea to its penetration into Russia and other countries, telling about the Great Tea Road from China to Russia, the traditions of Russian tea drinking. The story of tea leads to other related stories: about the drinks that were consumed in Russia before tea appeared, about who first brought tea to Russia and when it fully entered the life of Russian society. There is a history of how Russian merchants settled in China and began to produce brick tea there, and how the British counterfeited it. The book calls tea a "unifying element," telling which tea was valued at the Russian court, and which in peasant, merchant, aristocratic, and bohemian circles. And what it was drunk with. And what it was made of. Separate lines are dedicated to the confrontation between "tea" Moscow and "coffee" St. Petersburg, the role of the people of Yaroslavl in creating tea houses. In creating the book, almost 170 sources were used: literary and historical. There are many quotes here, painting pictures of the distant and relatively recent (Soviet) past, with wonderful illustrations used.
