Alexander Nikolaevich Nechaev, a well -known researcher of folklore, writer and storyteller, always paid special attention to the folklore of his north - Belomorye, Prosemine, Karelia. Tales, told by the White Sea fisherman Maxim Korguev, formed the basis of this collection. The book was prepared for the publication in 1946 and since then only in Russian withstood more than 30 reprints, the total circulation of which exceeded 10 million copies.
