This book is a reissue of the second part of the textbook edited by Prof. L.V. Shcherba on the grammar of the Russian language for 6th and 7th grades of secondary school (1953), which is dedicated to syntax. The textbook has two main sections: the syntax of simple sentences and the syntax of complex sentences. The first section provides an overview of the main and secondary parts of a sentence, the structure of a simple sentence, homogeneous and isolated parts of a sentence, and words not grammatically related to the sentence. The second section introduces students to the features of compound, complex, asyndetic sentences, and complex sentences with different types of connections, as well as the concept of direct and indirect speech. The structure of the sentence is closely related to punctuation features, so the author pays a lot of attention to the placement of punctuation marks in different types of constructions. The language of the textbook is simple and accessible to students of any level, making it a universal aid in learning syntax.
