The two-volume work by Vasily Alexeyevich Levshin is a rare edition. The material on folk art was borrowed from these fairy tales and from Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin. Some of the plots were borrowed by lubok artists to create their own works. When publishing the fairy tale edition, Vasily Alexeyevich tried to create a "Library of Russian Novels." He compares Russian heroes to European knights, and Russian fairy tales to European novels. In this way, he instills pride in the history of the Russian people: "With the intention of preserving our ancient heritage and encouraging people who have the time to gather all this multitude."
