This edition of the Russian-English dictionary is completely reproducing its first (1948) publication, carried out with the direct participation and leadership of the outstanding scientist and language scientist professor Alexander Ivanovich Smirnitsky.
The main part of the dictionary contains about 50,000 lexical units. She is preceded by "preface" prof. A.I. Smirnitsky, in which he focuses the attention of users of the dictionary on what distinguishes this dictionary from other bilingual dictionaries. In addition, the dictionary includes the section "structure of the dictionary", which describes the structure of the dictionary as a whole and its individual articles, a list of "conditional contractions" adopted in the dictionary (Russian and English) and a “list of geographical names”. The dictionary concludes two articles prof. Smirnitsky: "On reading (pronunciation) of English words" and "brief information on English grammar".
Over the past decades, responding to the realities of time, the Russian-English dictionary has been repeatedly updated. However, this does not detract from the importance of returning to the sphere of cultural communication of our days of his first edition.
The dictionary is recommended for persons interested in the history of science and culture - linguists, Russianists, English, Germanists, lexicographers, culturalists, and countryhogists.
can be used by a wide range of people learning English
