Israel is the only country of the world with which the Soviet Union has broken diplomatic relations in a few decades, restored only in 1991. However, despite some difficulties, in the most recent years, Russian-Israeli relations are distinguished by a significant convergence of both political and humanitarian spheres. The Israeli leadership fully supported Russian colleagues in the ideological issues that are important for them concerning the formation of historical memory, and also transferred Russia control over the Sergiev Movement in the center of Jerusalem. None of the countries of the West did such gestures in recent years in relation to Russia, and this predetermined a significant improvement in bilateral relations, expressed, in particular, in the abolition of the visa regime and a sharp increase in the tourist flow between states.
