Vienna, the beginning of the XX century. Luciush Klevsky is a young man from an aristocratic Polish family. Unlike the brothers who have chosen classes traditional for the gentry, he decides to become a doctor - however, a world war flashes in the midst of his training in Europe. Enchanted by romantic stories about military surgery, he was enrolled in the army, expecting him to be sent to a well -organized field hospital. But when Lucius arrives at the place of service in the Carpathian mountains, he discovers that this is not a huge hospital, but an impromptu hospital located in the old wooden church, and still ruined by a typhoid epidemic. The surviving medical staff fled, only a monkhin sister remained, which is surrounded by strange mystery. Lucius is the only doctor for many miles around, a surgeon, although he has never operated on anyone. What will happen in the place of his service will forever change the life of Lucius and all the people close to him.
