"The story of Potemkin, Prince of Tauride" was written by a famous specialist in the era of Catherine the Great V. S. Lopatin. The book was based on the correspondence of Catherine II and G. A. Potemkin, published by the author in 1997 in the academic series "Literary Monuments".
The author used a truly huge array of documentary materials, replenishing well -known publications with new archival discoveries. He found the first two Russian biographies of Potemkin, written immediately after the death of the prince by his closest employee, but never released.
As it was possible to install, they were written by a student of Lomonosov Luca Ivanovich Sichkarev. The famous translator-polyplot boldly opposed Potemkin"s bullyers, proving that Russia had lost a person who was not like that. " He raised the question: "How are such people are born?" A convincing answer is given by a new biography of the brightest Prince of Tauride.
In the "Tales", the co -ruler and secret husband of Catherine the Great appears as an outstanding state and military figure, a strategist who acconditionly joined the Crimean Khanate, a reformer of the army, the creator of the Black Sea Fleet, the builder of cities in the Northern Black Sea Region.
The book is acute polemic. It refutes the legends of Potemkin. The most malicious of them is said briefly and accurately: "" Potemkin villages " - the pride of Russia!"
"Tale" - the first scientifically verified biography of Grigory Alexandrovich Potemkin. Today, when the Crimea and Sevastopol returned to their native harbor ", the relevance of the book about the prince of Tauride increases many times.
