Elagin Nikolay Vasilievich (1817-1891)-spiritual writer, censor. It came from the old noble family of Elagin, one of the 14 children of the guard, Lieutenant Vasily Dmitrievich Elagin (1789-1868), a participant in the war of 1812. He studied in the first cadet corps in St. Petersburg. In 1836-1840 he served in one of the horse regiments. In 1840 he was sent to the office of the Ministry of Education. In 1841-1850 he worked in an archaeographic commission, which was gifted as a collection of ancient letters he collected. At this time, his historical works appeared: “The memory of the prince of Dmitry Mikhailovich Pozharsky” (1842), “The Tale of Kiev Old” (1842), “The first Christian martyrs in Lithuania” (1843), “Elena Ioannovna, Grand Duchess Lithuania and Queen Polish ”(1846) and“ Patriarch Joachim and the merits of his Fatherland in civil, political and religious relations ”(1847)
