The book of the French media historian Ferdinand Lot is devoted to the history of the last kings from the Caroling dynasty. After the collapse of the Empire of Charles the Great, they ruled its western part - the West Frankish Kingdom, the territory on which modern France later formed. The descendants of Emperor Karl became weaker and weaker, and at the end of the 9th-10th centuries. Their kingdom turned into a conglomerate of land, only nominally recognized the king’s power. The rebellious lords did not want to obey the Carolses, sometimes entering into an open confrontation with them. This struggle was full of dramatic ups, victories and defeats, and its apogee was a clash of Carolingians with the most serious opponents - Robertin -Capitian - who was destined by fate to become the ancestors of the new dynasty of the French kings.
