An ordinary family of Russian immigrants of Melnikov, who came out of the landowner bondage, is mastered in the vast expanses of the Siberian tags zone. Having fixed up on new lands, gradually settling, they bring the level of their well -being to the perfection of those times. Melnikovs live a calm, balanced life. And it is not known how many generations of this family would have lived the same if it were not for the 1917 revolution. This new misfortune - constant robberies, unfair accusations, threats of reprisal - forces a large family to look for another place of residence. People go north, but the journey ends tragically.
