For several generations of readers in Russia, Roman A.S. Novikova-Pribia remained the main source, according to which they received an idea of the Tsushima battle and the reasons for the defeat of the 2nd Pacific squadron.
The success of the novel was largely predetermined by the fact that its author, then a simple sailor Alexei Novikov,, as a battal of the squadron battleship, the Eagle made all the way with the squadron from Kronstadt to Tsushima, and became a direct participant and eyewitness of a grand battle.
