The action of the novel takes place in ancient Egypt in the middle of the second millennium BC. Witchcraft is happening everywhere. Mages conjure in temples, household magic has penetrated into all spheres of being. Too many gods and spirits runs people. Too many gods have to worship. Like the Jose of Saramago with his Gospel of Jesus, the author rethinks the outcome of the Egyptian young man from the world of Magic of Ancient Egypt to monotheism of nomads. Love for the wife of a high -ranking official of Pharaoh becomes the cause of many troubles that have befallen the young man"s family, and he himself makes him leave his father forever. Long wanderings in the desert, marriage to the daughter of the leader of the nomads help him to find faith in the new God - the god of the wanderers. Thanks to the help of the father -in -law, he liberates his Egyptian family and all the slaves - the builders of the canal - from the pharaoh hard labor. A trip in the desert ralves them, and Moiser is more and more convinced that the god of wanderers, the strongest among others
