In the last decade of the XI century, from the Nativity of Christ over Russia, especially its southern lands, the threat of devastation loomed. The Polovtsian steppe, entering into force, seriously engaged in its northern neighbor, always attracting khans a wealth of cities and trade. Of course, Russia was stronger than the steppe, but weakened, migrating in the strife and small binnings between the numerous offspring of the princely kind of Rurikovich. The grandson of Yaroslav the Wise, Prince Vladimir Vsevolodovich Monomakh, persuaded his relatives many times, persuaded them to unite and end the Polovtsian threat, but in vain.
