Tsar Ashoka (years of reign 273 BC - 232 BC) - the most famous ruler in all Indian history. He subjugated a significant part of South Asia, however, after another victory, realizing the suffering and destruction, Ashoka felt the repentance: “What did I do? - It"s horrible! I, being the head of the vast empire, became the reason that thousands of women and the orphanes of thousands of children were widowed. ” This remorse led him to the adoption of Buddhism, which he spread throughout his kingdom. Ashoka’s activity was unique: all the money from the state treasury was spent on the welfare of people, agriculture, trade and crafts developed, a system of free medical care was created, and educational institutions were built. As G. Wells said: “In the history of mankind there were thousands of kings and emperors who called themselves“ my majesty ”... They did not shine and quickly disappeared.
