Frederick Manning (1882–1935) was born in Australia and became famous as a poet, and in 1903 moved to England. From childhood, manning was distinguished by poor health and an indomitable spirit, therefore, with the beginning of the First World War, despite a number of failures, he managed to get to the front as a volunteer. He landed in the midst of the battle of Somma - one of the most bloody battles of the Western Front. The one saw and experienced a serious imprint on his subsequent life, and in 1929 he released the novel “Intimate places of Fortune”, the prototype of one of the characters of which, Borna, became Manning himself
