After the successful literary debut of the young talented writer Mikhail Korobeinikov, they invite to work in a prestigious Soviet newspaper. The journalist finds himself in the thick of events taking place in the USSR in 1968-69. The suppression of the "Prague Spring", the stratification of society in the Soviet Union, the power intrigues, the intensifying confrontation of the party and the KGB, the border conflict on the Damansky peninsula - all these historical episodes found their place on the pages of this novel. The hero misses everything that happens through himself, complies, trying to get to the bottom of the truth, prepares material for his new book. At the same time, Mikhail is experiencing a dramatic period of personal life, which gives him the opportunity through moral suffering to cleanse and return to himself.
