“War with Germany. I’m going to Moscow ” - this short entry made by Alexander Twardowski on June 22, 1941 laid the foundation for his military diaries, which the poet will keep every day all the next four years. “I feel able to do something very necessary for people whom I love so that at the thought of them the heart is compressed ...” - the poet wrote. And Twardowski works - in addition to newspaper notes in which he raises the fighting spirit of fighters, writes poetry. He saw a lot-the death of the retreating divisions under Kiev, the exit from the encirclement near Kanev, and offensive operations of the 3rd Belorussian Front. He ended the war in Germany. Here, at the front, he creates his famous Vasily Terkin. Diaries, workbooks, letters of those years - the poet’s invaluable contribution to the chronicle of the Great Patriotic War
