This collection included two works by Yuri Bondarev - “hot snow” and “battalions ask for fire”, united by the theme of the heroism of soldiers and officers who fought against the Nazi invaders. The battery under the command of Lieutenant Drozdovsky, which should stop the goth tanks rushing to the city. But even in this little world there is a place for friendship, ambitions and envy, however, when a bloody battle begins, all personal ones will retreat, it will seem small and does not matter, because it fades before the great common goal ...
Sometimes the war requires cruel and unfair solutions. Here are two battalions abandoned to force the Dnieper, tie the battle and give the division the signal “We ask for fire”, do not know that they are waiting for an unequal battle. In fact, their task is to distract the attention of the enemy from the real place of a major offensive. Will they support them with fire? Will they wait for an answer to a desperate signal? Or did they go to the right death?
