David Markish’s documentary novel “From Costs to Country” about the history of the public organization of the Jewish Anti -Fascist Committee (EAA), created at the direction of Stalin in early 1942 under the Sovinformburo. The Committee included representatives of the Soviet Jewish intelligentsia from different fields of activity: the head of the SOVINGUROBURO SOLOMON Lozovsky, writers Ilya Ehrenburg and David Bergelson, poets Samuel Marshak, Peretz Markish, film director Sergey Eisenstein, musicians David Oistrakh, Samuel Guilels, actor Veniamin Zuskin. Generals Yakov Crayser and Aron Katz, academicians Alexander Frumkin, Peter Kapitsa, the chairman of the committee became the chief director of the Moscow State Jewish Theater Solomon Mikhoels.
In the post -war years, the international fame and communications of the EAA began to interfere with the pursuit of the policy of I. Stalin. After the murder in 1948, the chairman of the EA Solomon Mikhoels was opened by the JAK case and the entire leadership of a public organization was arrested. All defendants were sentenced to death. They spared only Lina Stern - a scientist, biochemist and physiologist, academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences. From this moment, the process of eliminating the “cosmopolites” and the destruction of the remnants of Jewish culture in the USSR began.
Roman is simultaneously a historically reliable chronicle of those years and a historical study based on documentary material and personal memories of the father - poet Peresa Markish. The book published the selected poems of Perez Markish and the poem Forty -year
