The action of the novel “Emperor and Rebbe” of the prominent Jewish writer Zalman Schneur (1887–1959) covers the period from the first section of Poland to the flight of the French from Moscow. The heroes of the novel were three Russian emperors, Napoleon Bonaparte, the old Rebbe-the founder of the Khabad Rabbi Schneur-Zalman from Lyad, the Vilnius Gaon-the outstanding spiritual authority of the orthodox Jewishness of CRU Eligo Ben Shlome-Zalman.
