The book "First World War" is the first part of the multi-volume epic of the writer and international journalist Maxim Makarychev about the fate of the Don Cossacks in the dramatic era of Russian revolutions, civil and World War II. Based on real events, it is written with a sincere love for the Don, the capital of the Don Cossacks of the Novocherkassk, the courage and independence of the character of the Cossacks, sings the capital of the Don Cossacks. The main character of the epic is the Soviet intelligence officer Nikolai Abramov, whose life has been traced since childhood, spent in the house of his father in Novocherkassk since 1915 to the death of Odessa’s catacombs in 1943, where he was sent during the war on the leadership of Soviet intelligence to organize underground subversive work against Romanian-fascists. No less attention was paid to his father Fedor Abramov - Lieutenant General of the Tsarist Army, who became one of the leaders of the White movement on the Don, and then the active figure of the ROVS and the accomplice of the Nazis. He ended his life in a shelter for the Cossacks in the United States, having died in 1963 at the age of 93 under the wheels of a sports car. The third of the main characters of the epic, or rather its antihero, is a fictional character, the son of a worker Leonid Padin, the personal guide of the Abramovs, who became the leader of the Trotskyists on the Don and took an active part in the testing. The book reflects the tragic conflicts of the revolutionary years, when relatives and friends often found themselves on different side of the bloody confrontation
