1753. Empress Elizaveta Petrovna, following in the footsteps of her glorious parent Peter the Great, who advocated the spread of Russian commerce in Asian possessions, commands to send a merchant caravan with goods to Khiva. And so the merchants of the Samara and Kazan, led by the caravan foreman Danil Rukavkin, go on the road. Dolog and their path is dangerous, past the Cossack villages on the eggs, through the Kyrgyz-Kaisat lands. At every step, pioneers are in wait for the danger not only to be robbed, but also killed or captured and sold into slavery. And now, having passed the steppes and sands, merchants fall into Khiva. It would seem that danger is behind, but no, everything is just beginning - long, as if in imprisonment, life in the eastern capital.
