Spring 1943. The Red Army is preparing for the offensive. In one of the sections, enemy mortar batteries interfere with the promotion of our units. To identify their positions, scouts led by Yegor Schukin go to the location of the Nazis. Having passed the front edge, the fighters find the first mortar battery and denote it for our gunners with smoke bombs. The disturbed enemy opens a fluid fire on scouts. The surviving Shchukin reveals another enemy battery, but there is nothing to bring our gunners on it. Understanding that the task must be completed at all costs, Yegor is decided on a desperate step
