"Barlam Bee" is a story about a simple peasant who lived in the distant XVI century. His already difficult, but peaceful life is violated by the endless wars going in the Fatherland. He hates these wars. Barlam The Bee is readiness to help the authorities, which he also considers guilty in wars, is guided by not pathos pacifism, but a sincere desire to do everything possible, if only to avoid large sacrifices in an inevitable battle. The existence of the living conditions of a commoner - not royal and princely nobles, which more often happens in historical prose, is interesting - and the hero of the story from the Smolensk hinterland is involuntarily associated with the long -term name of Ivan Susanin.
