Readers are presented with a book by the outstanding theorist and practitioner in the field of hippology and equestrian sports, rider and circus organizer Victor Franconi (1811--1897), in which he shared his significant experience in the art of horse riding. The book presents the basic rules of horse riding in an accessible form, discusses techniques for controlling a horse: stopping, turning, settling, lateral movements, riding at various gaits, touches on the issue of proper handling of the horse and maintaining its health, pays attention to the training of 'spirited' horses, and briefly describes the bridling of a horse. An appendix, which was added when the book was translated into Russian, contains a brief overview of techniques for mounting and dismounting a horse, presents the basic rules of arena and field riding, and also examines some peculiarities of women's horse riding.
The book will be useful for trainers teaching horse riding, horse trainers, professional athletes, jockeys, and everyone who wants to learn how to stay well in the saddle.
