The collection of articles offered to the attention of readers was conceived as part of the project "revolution, the state, society, which carried out under the program of the Department of Historical and Philological Sciences RAS" Power and Society in History. In the process of work both above the project as a whole and above individual articles from the number included in this collection, their authors came to general agreement on what, firstly, the problem of Russian revolutions retains its relevance. Secondly, further study of the problems of the history of revolutions should be outlined beyond the evaluation judgments regarding the standard of living of the lowest classes of society
