In clinical practice, an increasing number of critically ill patients require renal replacement therapy. The book "Renal Failure and Replacement Therapy" by S. Blakely is dedicated to solving this complex issue. This book is one of the best in the excellent series published by Springer, "Competent Treatment of Critical Conditions."
S. Blakely's work significantly differs from modern comprehensive manuals, which essentially consist of collections of large articles with dozens of authors and extensive bibliographies. Blakely managed to create a remarkable, concise, and stylistically consistent guide. It describes practically all aspects of renal replacement therapy. The chapters of the book are small in volume because the authors only presented the essence of the issue and did not abuse the use of literature lists. The main features of the content are the exceptional common sense of the authors, reliance only on proven methods, on proven facts, and strict adherence to the fundamental principle of medicine - do no harm. The book is intended primarily for specialists involved in renal replacement therapy, anesthesiologists-intensivists, as well as doctors of other specialties, as the diagnosis and successful replacement of kidney function in critical conditions are only possible through the combined efforts of doctors from different specialties.
